Larry Weller, co-owner of Moynihan Gallery & Framing, studied photography at the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California. He began his career in Iowa as a commercial photographer for the Des Moines Register and Tribune Company and stayed there ten years. Weller then moved to Bismarck, North Dakota, where he operated his own photography business until relocating to Holland and opening the gallery with his wife Kate Moynihan in 1993.
Weller was immediately inspired to produce a poster of the doors of Holland because of the wonderful renovation, which began with the 8th Street snow melt project in 1986. the quick growth of their business delayed the poster for nearly six years until ample staffing allowed him time to work on the photography. He decided to narrow his focus to doors of downtown businesses because the majority residents and tourists would recognize and relate to them.

The poster is richly printed with glossy enameled photos and satin black borders. It includes a narrative description identifying each building and unusual details of many of the doors.
Shortly after publishing this poster, Weller spent the next three years studying Photoshop through a series of classes and hours of self study. At the same time he began researching the art of Giclee printing (a relative new fine art reproduction method of digital printing using archival papers and inks). |

As a result of his years as a commercial photographer, strong knowledge of color theory and recent studies, Weller has become accomplished as a fine art printer. He and his wife Kate, now publish limited edition giclee prints from select originals of Kate's. |
